Academic Exchange Program Of Ueh And Unpad – Indonesia

In the afternoon of February 21, 2023, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City – UEH successfully organized the Academic Exchange Program for the professors, lecturers, and Ph.D. candidates of UEH and the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Padjadjaran (FEB-UNPAD). This program is one of the academic activities promoting international integration, enhancing lecturers' and Ph.D. candidates' capacity, and expanding connections of UEH with leading universities in Asia and around the world.

The academic exchange program between UEH and FEB-UNPAD was co-hosted by different Schools at UEH including School of Banking, School of Finance, School of Tourism, School of Business Administration, and School of International Business from the College of Business, UEH (COB); School of Economics from the College of Economics, Law, and Government, UEH (CELG); and School of Foreign Languages, UEH.

The event proudly had the participation of distinguished guests from UEH, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trong Hoai, the Chief Editor of the Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies (JABES), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Khanh Nam, the Vice Rector of the College of Economics, Law and Government, the Dean of the School of Economics, Dr. Hoang Hai Yen, the Dean of the School of Banking, and the Deans and representatives from the School of Banking, School of Finance, School of Tourism, School of International Business – Marketing, School of Foreign Languages. The program also welcomed the attendees, who are lecturers, Ph.D. candidates, Youth Union and Students Association representatives, and UEH students.

In the program, UEH warmest welcomed some representatives from FEB-UNPAD, including Prof. Dr. Nunuy Nur Afiah, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Dr. Kurniawan Saefullah, the Vice Dean of Organizations and Resource, Prof. Dr. Maman Setiawan, the Vice Dean of Academics, Student and Research, Prof. Dr. Yudi Azis, the Director of  Doctoral Program in Management Science, Dr. Meinanda Kurniawan, the Head of the International Office, together with lecturers, professional staff, and more than 15 Ph.D. candidates.

Following the Signing Ceremony of MoU/MoA and the UEH campus tour in the morning, some academic activities between FEB-UNPAD's and UEH's lecturers and students took place in the afternoon of February 21, 2023.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Khanh Nam from UEH started the program with an opening remark welcoming the representatives from FEB-UNPAD. Prof. Dr. Yudi Azis from UNPAD also gave a speech expressing his special thanks for UEH's hospitality and raising some expectations for future collaborative programs between UNPAD and UEH.

Next was the workshop on academic writing hosted by Dr. Ton Nu Tuy Anh from the School of Foreign Languages. The workshop provided the participants with practical knowledge on English sentence structuring and word use, which can be applied in dissertation and thesis writing.

The event also offered the attendees an excellent opportunity to listen to the sharing of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trong Hoai, the Chief Editor of JABES, on precious experience in selecting potential research topics and submitting papers to JABES as well as other prestigious scientific journals. Notably, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trong Hoai emphasized the interest in the future collaboration with FEB-UNPAD in organizing international conferences and conducting research projects.

Following was the sharing of UNPAD and UEH Ph.D. students on their learning and researching experience in Ph.D. programs. Through the discussion, the Ph.D. students from both universities were exposed to diverse perspectives on doing research in different contexts. They also gained more experience from an informal discussion with the professors from UNPAD and UEH.

The professors from UNPAD and UEH then participated in a panel discussion in order to provide the Ph.D. candidates with more advice on how they can be assisted in pursuing their Ph.D. learning. This created an open space for the students to share their opinions and raise important questions about their study. The discussion marked the end of the academic exchange program but opened up more doors for a fruitful collaboration between UNPAD and UEH in teaching, researching, and student exchange activities.

The academic exchange program between UEH and UNPAD creates great opportunities for lecturers and Ph.D. students to enhance their international mobility, cultivate their learning, and improve their international publishing capacity. This would be a chance for cultural exchange and teaching collaboration of academics and students from both institutions.

Beside that, on February 22, 2023, the Faculty of Economics and Business – Universitas Padjadjaran, Indonesia granted scholarships to the School of Banking, the School of Accounting from the College of Business (UEH) and the School of Economics from the College of Economics, Law, and Government (UEH) to promote opportunities for collaboration in training and teaching among the Schools.

The scholarship award ceremony was hosted with the desire to highlight the shared objectives of both UNPAD and UEH, including promoting academic activities and enhancing opportunities for learning and internship between the two nations so as to create positive impacts on learners and contribute to strengthening international friendship, training collaboration and human resources development. Both universities discussed and agreed on mutual collaboration in academic programs as follows:

  • Summer Programs Scholarship for UEH students studying at UNPAD
  • Collaborating and Enhancing opportunities for UEH students to do an internship in Big4 enterprises in Indonesia
  • One-trimester Tuition Scholarship for undergraduate students studying at UNPAD
  • Postgraduate Scholarship (Master and Ph.D.) for UEH students studying at UNPAD
  • Opportunity for lecturer exchange (short-term and long-term)
  • Opportunity for co-supervising Ph.D. students on thesis projects.

The agreement on the academic exchange with specific scholarship awards and collaboration opportunities has marked the immediate action on implementing of MoU and MoA between Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) and UEH. This has created an opportunity for UEH students to access international learning experiences and for academic staff and researchers to develop their capacity, which accordingly enhances the development of both universities’ human resources.
