Conference on the Implementation of Action Programs, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh in the period of 2023-2025

On October 4, 2023, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1146 to transform University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City University (UEH) into a University, officially becoming one of the 7 higher education institutions in Vietnam operating under the model of "Multi-disciplinary university". In order to officially inform about this event, as well as to prepare the key tasks that need to be done in the remaining time of the 2020-2025 term, UEH organized the Conference on the Implementation of Action Programs, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh in the period of 2023-2025 on the morning of October 11, 2023.

Education quality accreditation: 08 UEH training programs continuing to meet FIBAA International Standards in 2023

Following the results achieved in training program accreditation recently, recently, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) continues to successfully audit 8 training programs in accordance with FIBAA standards, bringing UEH’s total number of European quality training programs to 13. This is UEH’s strong commitment to bringing to the best quality of education for learners in the context of having just officially become one of the 7 Multi-disciplinary and Multi-field Universities in Vietnam.

Republic Polytechnic - University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City International Exchange Workshop 2023

From September 20th to 21st, the School of Tourism of UEH College of Business (COB) successfully organized the exchange program to welcome international students from Republic Polytechnic University, Singapore (RP). This program is part of practical activities for students enrolled in programs related to Hospitality, Management, and Technology at RPU. The program's aim is to exchange experiences and engage in discussions with UEH School of Tourism on topics related to design thinking in sustainable tourism management and development, as well as community-based tourism in the Mekong Delta.

On the morning of October 6, 2023, at the Hall of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee, UEH coordinated with the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee to solemnly organize the Opening Ceremony of the "Training and Knowledge-Updating Program to Improve Executive Capacity for Leaders and Managers of Dong Nai Province in 2023" with the theme "Improving leadership and management capacity to promote competitiveness and sustainable development for the locality in the context of economic integration." for 46 learners who are Directors of Departments/Divisions/Sẻvices, Heads of Committees under People's Councils, Chairmen of People's Committees of districts/cities under the Province, Presidents and General Directors of companies in Dongnai Province.

Motivation of EFL Vietnamese Students in Economics-related Majors

Motivation plays an essential part in learning, especially in second language acquisition (SLA). What drives UEH students to learn English and are there any differences between first- and second-year students’ motivation? This paper investigates the learning motivation of Vietnamese economics-related majors studying English as a Foreign Language (EFL), utilizing Dornyei’s (2005) L2 motivational self-system as the theoretical framework. The study endeavors to provide a comprehensive review on students’ motivation to learn English. The Ideal L2 Self, Ought-to L2 Self, the students’ attitudes together with their efforts in English learning were investigated, and key motivational factors, i.e. the roles of teachers, peers, school and parents, were identified. This research provides some insights into the students’ motivation and offers recommendations for enhancing the motivation of EFL learners in a Vietnamese tertiary context.

Climate Change And Our Society: The Urgency Of Gender Inequality

On 9 Oct 2023, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Sveriges Riksbank Prize (i.e. Nobel Prize) in Economic Sciences in 2023 to Professor Claudia Goldin at Harvard University, USA. Professor Goldin has uncovered key drivers of gender differences in the labour market. This award reminds us about a serious social issue: gender inequality. Meanwhile, climate change and global warming are major challenges worldwide, which causing several consequences on the economy and society. This article raises a concern that natural threats might influence gender inequality significantly through empirical evidence from our recent study. Therefore, we call for more efforts and attention from both governments and scholars in the backdrop of climate change and global warming.
