On May 29th, United States Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Charles H. Rivkin visited the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City on the ocassion of commemorating the 20th anniversary of normalization of U.S.-Vietnam diplomatic relations.
Participating in the meeting, there were also Economic Chief Nathan Lane from U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City; Economic Officer Elaine Hensle from Office of Bilateral Trade Affairs, U.S. Department of State; UEH’s President Nguyen Dong Phong; UEH’s Vice President Nguyen Trong Hoai; Head of Human Resources Nguyen Huu Huy Nhut; Head of International Relations Office Ho Viet Tien and UEH’s faculty members, students.
In his speech, the U.S. Assistant Secretary Charles H. Rivkin hopes that this chance would positively strengthen the diplomatic relationship between the two countries. He gave a speech about various areas in which Vietnam and the U.S. have cooperated over the past 20 years, putting emphasis on the promising output for Vietnam on growth, trade and investment opportunities as barriers would fall when the negotiations of Trans-Pacific Partnership close. The faculty members and students of UEH also had exciting discussions with Mr. Rivkin about ODA, the U.S.-Vietnam higher educational cooperation and TPP’s conditions and prospects for Vietnam, etc.
Mr. Rivkin sent his best regards to the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City staff, faculty members and students in the hope that the past 20-year accomplishments add momentum to future economic development, bilateral trade promotion, and higher education collaboration for both Vietnam and the U.S.
