UEH Welcoming and Working with the United Nations Delegation and Representatives of United Nations agencies in Vietnam

On June 20, 2024, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) welcomed the delegation from the United Nations and UN agencies in Vietnam, marking the beginning of new potential cooperation between the two Units in the fields of research and practice with contribution to the development goals of the United Nations and the entire society.

The meeting was honored to welcome Ms. Pauline Tamesis - Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Vietnam; Mr. Jonathan Baker - UNESCO Chief Representative in Vietnam; Mr. Matt Jackson - UNFPA Chief Representative in Vietnam; Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Han - UNESCO Officer; and Mr. Trinh Anh Tuan - United Nations Communications Officer in Vietnam.

Welcoming the delegation from the United Nations Delegation, UEH representatives included Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - Director of UEH, Dr. Dinh Cong Khai - Deputy Director of UEH and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Duong Phuong Thao - Deputy Head of UEH Research - Development and Global Engagement Department.

The meeting marked an important milestone in the cooperation journey between UEH and the United Nations and UN agencies in Vietnam, promoting the exchange of experience and knowledge between the two sides in important areas including education, innovation, youth entrepreneurship, gender equality and disadvantaged groups, comprehensive and inclusive digital transformation, etc. towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, contributing to building a better society.

Giving the opening speech at the event, Prof.Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - Director of UEH - warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and emphasized the importance of sustainable development goals in UEH's development strategy through specific projects and efforts of the school, demonstrated by its recognition as a top 301-400 University contributing to the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals, leading universities in Vietnam on the global THE Impact Rankings.

Remarking on the meeting, Ms. Pauline Tamesis - Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Vietnam - thanked UEH for the respectful welcome, expressed her deep impression, and acknowledged UEH's support in the organization of the program "Youth Dialogue for a Comprehensive and Inclusive Digital Future" taking place from June 19-20 at Campus B, as well as the program "YDCC - Digital Security Hackathon 2024" taking place on last April at UEH Campus N. Ms. Pauline emphasized the importance of cooperation with UEH, which will strongly contribute to spreading knowledge and efforts to everybody, especially young people, in contributing to solving current challenges. Today, Vietnam, as well as the world, contributes its voice to important United Nations agendas.

Following the successes of the cooperation program, UEH was honored to share with members of the United Nations delegation in Vietnam practical programs and projects of mutual interest, listed as Startup, innovation and technology programs for young people, digital transformation projects at UEH, and especially the UEH Green Campus sustainable development project. Mr. Jonathan Baker, UNESCO Chief Representative in Vietnam and Mr. Matt Jackson, UNFPA Chief Representative in Vietnam expressed their impression and appreciation for UEH's practical activities and projects and shared their enthusiasm for the sustainable development strategy of the University.

During the meeting, delegates enthusiastically discussed ideas and potential cooperation opportunities between the two sides. Dr. Dinh Cong Khai - Deputy Director of UEH - presented specific proposals and cooperation ideas that UEH can participate in and contribute to the United Nations development goals, focusing on the pillars of education, knowledge transfer, innovation, youth entrepreneurship, and digital transformation.

The meeting ended successfully, in the spirit of sharing a vision of a stronger cooperative relationship between UEH, the United Nations and UN agencies in Vietnam. Concurrently, it opened up many opportunities and potential cooperation projects in the future towards comprehensive sustainable development.
