Every year, the fashion industry generates millions of tons of waste and consumes vast amounts of water and energy, yet new clothes are constantly bought, worn a few times, and then forgotten. Young people understand that better than anyone else. They talk about green living, responsible consumption, and sustainable fashion. But when faced with a trendy item and an "environmentally friendly" option, the decision doesn't always lean toward sustainability. So, what really makes young people willing to open their wallets for sustainable fashion, and what makes them hesitate? Research by students from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) was conducted to find the answer to that question, right in the vibrant consumer lifestyle of Ho Chi Minh City.
Starting January 5, 2026, the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) has officially launched a series of new technological utilities into simultaneous operation, marking a significant step forward in its comprehensive digital transformation roadmap. This initiative is aimed at building a smart university model centered on learners, faculty, and staff.
Every day on campus, waste naturally appears in student life. Plastic cups, styrofoam boxes, and plastic bags are used "wherever they're convenient," all repeating like a habit. When those small choices happen every day, waste is no longer a distant environmental issue, but becomes part of the learning space itself. In that context, the "UEH Zero Waste Campus" project was launched with the goal of not only reducing waste but also changing how students perceive and respond to a zero-waste lifestyle. Based on this reality, a research team from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) conducted a study to understand the factors influencing students' attitudes toward the project, thereby explaining why some are willing to change while many remain hesitant.
