Within the framework of the Micro4Asia project funded by the European Commission, from September 15 to 19, 2025, the delegation of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) participated in the WP4 Workshop – Developing a Common Recognition Mechanism (CRM) for Micro-Credentials, hosted at Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic.
The UEH delegation included: Dr. Dinh Cong Khai – Vice President of UEH; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Hai Yen – Dean of the School of Banking, UEH College of Business, Project Coordinator; Dr. Phan Thi Bao Quyen – Vice Dean of the School of Accounting, UEH College of Business; Dr. Nguyen Hoang Le – Director of the Institute for Human Resource and Business Development, UEH College of Business; and Dr. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nhung – Program Director, School of Economics, UEH College of Economics, Law and Government.
This workshop was organized as part of the Micro4Asia project, which will be implemented from 2025 to 2028 with the participation of 10 universities from Europe, Vietnam, and Laos. The project aims to modernize higher education systems in Vietnam and Laos through the development of micro-credentials aligned with European standards, while at the same time establishing a common recognition mechanism to ensure that these credentials are acknowledged across borders. This contributes to promoting lifelong learning and strengthening the connection between higher education and the labor market. UEH plays a vital role in the project and is responsible for leading WP3 – the development of 35 micro-credentials.
In this context, the WP4 Workshop in Brno focused on designing and developing a Common Recognition Mechanism (CRM), laying the foundation for the implementation and recognition of micro-credentials in Vietnam and Laos. Representatives from UEH shared insights on the university’s digital learning resources, online learning platforms, and the role of short courses in meeting flexible learning needs while staying closely connected to business and labor market demands.
Overview of workshop participants
In addition, the workshop featured a special working session with the participation of leaders from European and Southeast Asian universities. Delegates exchanged strategies and approaches to implementing micro-credentials under the European model in Vietnam and Laos as pilot countries, with the ultimate goal of expanding to the broader Asian region. This is considered an important first step toward building a common recognition mechanism not only between Vietnam and Laos but also among other Asian countries, thereby promoting mutual recognition of degrees and credentials across the region.
Discussion between school leaders
On behalf of the UEH delegation, Dr. Dinh Cong Khai – Vice President of UEH – delivered a strategic keynote, affirming that the development of micro-credentials not only contributes to innovation in education and training but also forms an integral part of UEH’s digital transformation and internationalization strategy. As a multidisciplinary university, UEH is committed to actively developing internationally recognized micro-credentials to enhance learners’ capabilities, broaden their career opportunities in regional and global labor markets, and contribute to the sustainable socio-economic development of the country. He further emphasized that micro-credentials will serve as a practical tool to foster lifelong learning and learning mobility, helping UEH realize its commitment to accompanying the modernization of higher education in Vietnam and the region.
These contributions not only demonstrate UEH’s pioneering role in the project but also bring significant value to the university itself. The workshop strengthened UEH’s position as the focal institution in Vietnam for developing micro-credentials while creating opportunities to directly access international standards and practices in credential recognition. Through discussions and exchanges, UEH gained further foundations to closely connect WP4 with WP3 – the work package led by UEH – ensuring consistency and practical applicability in the development of 35 micro-credentials. Moreover, the event helped expand UEH’s international collaboration network, reaffirming the university’s commitment to accompanying the modernization of higher education in Vietnam and across the region.
