Living Lab UEH Zero Waste Campus - an Attractive Topic in UEH Cultural Communication Ambassador Competition

Accompanied by “Being proud of promoting UEH tradition” spirit, “UEH Cultural Communication Ambassador” Competition has created a significantly meaningful playground for all members from UEH great family, together spreading beautiful pictures, good stories, positive values to UEH community to study and develop. After three intense rounds, participating teams built their submissions with diverse contents and creative formats, carrying their boldly distinctive characteristics, in which Living Lab UEH Zero Waste Campus was an extremely attractive topic.

“UEH Cultural Communication Ambassador” Competition

“UEH Cultural Communication Ambassador” Competition 2021 started at the beginning of this October on the UEH 45-year establishment anniversary occasion for all officials and students. The competition aims to honor UEHers’ cultural beauty through creative activities, products, and projects. Therefore, UEH Culture has been encouraged and spread internally, raising students’ awareness, responsibility, and self-respect in work and study. Simultaneously, each UEHer joins hands with UEH in activities for the green zero-waste community, supporting citizens of HCMC and the whole country to prevent and control the Covid-19 pandemic, contributing to construction and orientation towards sustainably developed UEH University.

The competition attracted almost 4000 registered candidates from UEH Institutes and Schools. Overcoming thousands of candidates, the final round took place on 30th November 2021 with the participation of Top 5 participating teams for each objective: official and learner. The final round occurred with 2 performances with a new form and content: presenting communication projects and initiatives along with themes. After remarkably impressive and unique performances, the winners of “UEH cultural communication ambassador” competition officially appeared.

Throughout the competition, that Living Lab UEH Zero Waste Campus topic was selected by lots of participating teams and did become a “hot topic”, including both official and learner blocks, showed that the participating teams placed a lot of concerns in terms of environmental issues of the community and empowered UEHers to be global citizens acting because of sustainable development.

VC11: Participating submission of lecturers at UEH School of Accounting (Mr. Le Doan Minh Duc, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Nguyet, Mr. Phung Quoc Viet) mentioning global pollution problems via Podcast modality provided much useful and new information regarding current waste statements and helped UEH community be aware of rubbish risks, spread to everybody the “Rethink & Begreen” message and 3R Model (Reduce - Reuse - Recycle) practice in classifying and processing rubbish, accompanying the UEH Zero Waste Campus project.

Meanwhile, VC08 team - School of Finance (Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh, Ms. Nguyen Thi Uyen Uyen, Ms. Ho Thu Hoai) delivered UEH Culture through a short video with funny pictures while implying a typical beauty on the cultural aspect of UEH. Although these activities were small, they contribute to the cultural beauty, listing as implementing queuing culture, being patient, respecting everyone, not hesitating to send gratitude to surrounding people, and most importantly, keeping the environment clean. These cultural values were maintained throughout a variety of generations and continued to be strengthened to contribute to developing sustainable UEH community.

Learner Block

NH04: From “Những con số biết nói” (Speakable Figures) on international and Vietnamese waste fact, the participating teams comprising Tran Ngoc Anh Thu, Truong Nguyen Thuy Duong, Vo Thi Nhat Vi brought considerably creative and interesting short video regarding UEH Zero Waste Campus project - the first zero-waste university in Vietnam. This video is an overview of the project, using 3R Model (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) in classifying and processing rubbish and applying technology in traditional education methodology to advance awareness and change behaviors, aiming at the green UEHer community. As a result, “Rethink & Begreen” message conveys the greatly responsible voice of the young: “Me, a green UEHer citizen, proud of contributing to a sustainable community”.

NH13: This team, including Huynh Thi Dieu Hien, Tran Thi My Hanh, Nguyen Thi Minh Thanh, brought an extremely creative and dynamic podcast containing a distinguished beauty via UEH radio - briefing on personal stories and experiences at UEH with “How to be a green UEHer citizen” theme. The submission conveyed a green lifestyle with some tips to be a truly green UEH citizen through 4 steps: 1) Advancing zero-waste lifestyle knowledge, 2) Taking part in the green-UEHer related activity series, 3) Forming a rubbish-classifying habit, 4) Spreading the green lifestyle to families and friends at UEH and other universities. Especially, Podcast one more time called the community to together spread UEH Zero Waste Campus project that UEH has been deploying to orient a truly green UEH community.

Living Lab UEH Zero Waste Campus: “Làm thế nào để trở thành công dân UEHer xanh” (How to be a green UEHer citizen) submission of NH13 team

NH08: The submission of the team of Phan Le Nhat Hang, Tran Hoang Thai, Vong Anh Tho brought a realistic picture of a green UEH space, activities of UEH Zero Waste Campus project or “Time 4 go green” program of officials and lecturers, movement contests raising students’ awareness, and more. These were particularly meaningful activities, conveying cultural values, carrying UEH students’ and officials’ unique characteristics. These activities have been expected to continually pioneer green and healthy lifestyles, join hands for the surrounding environment, and spread cultural values to the community.

Interesting submissions on Living Lab UEH Zero Waste Campus revealed that UEH has particularly focused on UZWC project, expected to join hands with UEH in activities for the zero-waste community as well as spread the green lifestyle to each UEHer. Therefore, these activities have been maintained and promoted to be distinctive cultures of UEH, contributing to constructing a sustainably developed UEH.
