The sixth meeting of the UEH Council: Officially approved UEH development strategy for the period of 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030

The University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) held its sixth council meeting for the 2020-2025 period and officially approved significant changes to the UEH development strategy on October 8, 2021.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong - Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of UEH Council emphasized: "This is a meeting of UEH Council with many important, breakthrough and meaningful contents for UEH's long-term development strategy in the period 2021 - 2025 and a vision to 2030, preparing for the important contents of UEH restructuring which will be announced on October 27, 2021 on the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the University. In addition, this is also the first meeting of the Council with the full attendance of 25 members, contributing important ideas and shaping UEH University in the future.”

After nearly 3 hours of working and discussion, 25/25 members of UEH Council (100%) voted unanimously to approve all the meeting contents.

Establish UEH College of Business; UEH College of Economics, Law and Government; UEH College of Technology and Design under University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, finishing the organizational structure and apparatus, aiming for a multidisciplinary and sustainable UEH University.

The preparation process for the establishment of three Colleges was organized, meticulous, serious, and responsible, with the consensus of the Board of Management and all officials, employees for the development of UEH in the coming period. In particular, the projects are derived from the practical basis of the society associated with the trend of global integration and comply with the conditions and legal requirements of the Law on Higher Education (amended) and the Law-Guiding Decree. Therefore, the establishment of the UEH College of Business; College of Economics, Law and Goverment; UEH College of Technology and Design under the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City is an essential foundation for the university to continue to build and complete the development project to become UEH University in the period of 2021 - 2025 following the provisions of the National Law on Higher Education (amended).

Along with that, UEH Council also approved regulations to complete and operate the organizational structure and apparatus according to the restructuring model such as Organizational structure of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2021 - 2025, Regulations on Organization and Operation of UEH (amended), Regulations on Organization and Operation of UEH Colleges, Regulations on Appointment, re-appointment, and extension of tenure duties, termination of positions and dismissal of officials and employees holding managerial positions under the authority of the UEH President.

Accordingly, the organizational structure of UEH Colleges will have specialized units under the University. They are training faculties, research institutes, research and training institutes, short-term programs, and mainly, the General Department of each Member School to perform administrative functions, support for scientific research activities, international cooperation, communication, partner connection, human resources, and finances. Based on this organizational model, these units will be operated following the principle of "Consistency - Cooperation - Optimization of resources and Professionalism, Innovation".

Orientation to the name UEH University, Multidisciplinary and Sustainable Development

UEH Council also 100% agreed with the UEH brand as the name in the project to upgrade the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City into UEH University, multidisciplinary and sustainable development. “UEH” is a name familiar to many generations of lecturers, officials, employees, learners, domestic and foreign partners, having been affirmed in the past 45 years. Over 95% of lecturers, officials, and employees agreed with this opinion at the "Conference of all officers and employees" on September 23, 2021, and many conferences at all university levels. However, according to The Council, despite UEH's strong brand, the institution faces numerous challenges during this period. So that it is necessary to be methodical, cautious, and professional, it has to promote the traditional values and locate the core values of the UEH brand in the future.

One of the critical orientations to position the brand for UEH University is a multidisciplinary and sustainable university. UEH Council also highly appreciated UEH’s orientation on sustainable development under the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations to 2030 with three approaches: 1) Global approach: participating in promoting and solving solve problems at the regional or global level; 2) Efforts to minimize negative economic, environmental, social and health impacts in teaching, research, and administration activities; 3) Reach out to community, engagement, partnerships, and governance in ways that help society transition to sustainable lifestyles.

The sustainable UEH University brand will focus on 05 pillars: Training, Research, Administration, Operation and Community Connection along with 04 positioning values: (1) Learners at UEH are oriented to become global citizens who act for sustainable development; (2) From research and consulting to positive impacts for the community and society; (3) UEHer community together towards sustainable development and artistic inspiration; (4) Connecting the community, spreading knowledge, acting together for a sustainable future.

In this meeting, UEH Council approved several critical contents. They are the Regulation on UEH public assets, the project adjustment for the construction of a training and research facility in Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa and UEH Vinh Long Branch Campus 2 in Long Ho district, Vinh Long. In addition, the University has officially launched a new major in technology and innovation, which will begin accepting students in 2022.

The 6th meeting of the UEH Council for the term 2020 - 2025 took place successfully, highly unifying many meaningful and breakthrough contents for the UEH development strategy. It is an essential milestone in the university history, construction, and development of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City for 45 years. Moreover, it is the beginning of a new development phase ahead, aiming to form a multidisciplinary and sustainable UEH University, meeting recent trends in the context of globalization and the 4.0 digital era.
